Guía de CalcES

Calculadora científica

• Calculate terms of a recurrence sequence on one line

Find successive terms of a recurrence and keep track of their term numbers using a two-statement CALC loop.

• Check whether an equation or inequality is true

Turn Verify on, enter an equation or inequality, and read True or False to check whether it holds.

• Check, change or clear a stored variable before the next problem

Find a variable's stored value, replace it or clear that variable without disturbing the others.

• Convert between decimal, binary and hexadecimal on a calculator

Convert 255 from decimal to binary and hexadecimal, then enter each form to check that it gives 255 again.

• Fill a formula down a spreadsheet column

Enter four side lengths, fill a column with their squares, and change a length to check that its area updates.

• Find a line of best fit and predict a value

Enter paired data to find the linear regression equation and correlation coefficient, then estimate y for a new x.

• Find a normal distribution probability

Enter two limits, a mean and a standard deviation to find the probability between the limits.

• Find a normal percentile from a probability

Find the cut-off score for the top 5% of a normal distribution using its mean and standard deviation.

• Find the derivative at a point on a calculator

Evaluate a function's derivative at a chosen x-value to find the slope of the curve there.

• Find the determinant and inverse of a matrix

Enter a 2 by 2 matrix once, then calculate its determinant and exact inverse.

• Find the dot product and cross product of two vectors

Enter two 3-D vectors once to calculate their dot product as a number and their cross product as a vector.

• Find the height of a normal curve at a value

Use Normal PD to find the normal probability density at a given value, mean and standard deviation.

• Find the mean and standard deviation of a data set

Enter a list of numbers to find its mean, population standard deviation and sample standard deviation.

Enter three known terms of a proportion to find the missing number as an exact fraction or a decimal.

• Find the molar mass of a compound

Enter a chemical formula to find its molar mass, using calcium hydroxide as an example.

• Find the roots of a cubic equation

Enter a cubic's four coefficients, read its roots, and check them by factorisation.

• Fit a curve to data: quadratic and other regressions

Enter paired data, choose a curved regression, read its coefficients, and estimate a value from the fitted equation.

• Fix a mistake in an earlier calculation without retyping it

Recall an earlier calculation, correct one digit, and rerun it and the calculation that used its answer.

• Get exact answers with fractions, square roots and pi

Calculate fractions, square roots and pi in exact form, read their decimal values, and switch between the two.

• How to calculate a definite integral

Calculate the integral of x² from 0 to 2 and read the exact fraction 8/3 with its decimal approximation.

• How to find a binomial probability

Find the probability of exactly three heads or at most three heads in ten fair coin tosses.

• How to find a Poisson probability

Find the probability of exactly two calls or at most two calls in a minute when the mean is three.

• How to simulate dice rolls and coin tosses

Roll two dice 100 times, read how often each sum appears, and repeat the experiment with a coin.

• How to solve a quadratic equation and find its extremum

Enter three coefficients to find both the roots and the vertex of a quadratic function.

• How to solve a system of two equations

Enter two rows of coefficients to solve a system of two linear equations for x and y.

• How to store a result in a variable and reuse it

Store an answer in a letter and use it in later calculations, even after Ans has moved on.

• Install CalcES on your phone for quick access

Add CalcES to your Android or iPhone Home Screen so you can open the calculator in one tap.

• Make a table of values for a function

Calculate a sequence of f(x) values over a chosen range without re-entering the expression.

• Multiply complex numbers and find the modulus and polar form

  Multiply (2 + 3i)(1 - i) to get 5 + i, then find its modulus and polar form.

• Recalculate one formula for different values with CALC

Enter a formula once, then change its variable to obtain several results.

• Save an answer in a variable without STO

Tap the Save icon to keep an exact answer in a letter, then use that letter in your next calculation.

• See an answer as a mixed number, repeating decimal or DMS

Read the different forms of an answer, then show it in degrees, minutes and seconds and switch back to the fraction.

• See the roots and vertex of a solved equation on its graph

Solve x² − 5x + 6 = 0, open its parabola, and read the coordinates of its roots and lowest point.

• Solve a quadratic inequality and read its solution set

Enter the coefficients, choose the relation, and identify the intervals that satisfy it.

• Solve an equation directly in the calculator

Enter a complete equation and let the calculator isolate x automatically, without opening a separate mode.
