This Privacy Policy explains what information CalcES Scientific Calculator processes, when that processing happens, and how browser storage, analytics, OCR uploads, and server-side calculation requests are handled.

Privacy Policy

CalcES Scientific Calculator ("CalcES", "we", "our", or "us") is operated by TERA RESEARCH LAB CO., LTD. This Privacy Policy describes how information is handled when you use our scientific calculator, graphing calculator, and related features.

Scope

This policy applies to the CalcES web application, including:

  • the main scientific calculator;
  • the graphing calculator;
  • AI/OCR math input features;
  • localized versions of the app;
  • our legal, informational, and support pages.

Information We Process

1. Information you enter into the calculator

When you use the calculator, you may enter mathematical expressions, variables, graph inputs, conversion values, and similar content. In this product, math evaluation is performed by backend APIs rather than fully in the browser, so submitted calculation data may be sent to our server endpoints for processing.

2. Images you upload for OCR

If you use the AI Scanner or OCR-related features, images or image-derived data may be uploaded to the server so the app can convert math content into LaTeX or other supported formats. This only happens when you actively use that feature.

3. Information stored locally in your browser

To provide a better user experience, CalcES stores some information locally on your device, such as:

  • calculation history;
  • saved variable values;
  • calculator settings and display preferences;
  • panel and layout preferences;
  • some input recovery state;

This local browser storage is used to preserve your experience between sessions on the same device and browser.

4. Performance, analytics, and diagnostics data

Depending on deployment configuration, we may use analytics or tag-management tools such as Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics to understand usage patterns, improve stability, and measure performance. These tools may collect information such as page views, browser/device details, approximate usage patterns, and referral data in accordance with their own policies.

5. Cached content and service worker data

CalcES uses a service worker and in-browser caching to improve performance and resilience. This may temporarily store app assets and some API responses in your browser cache. Cached data remains under your browser environment and may persist until cleared or replaced.

How We Use Information

We use processed information to:

  • evaluate mathematical expressions and return results;
  • convert uploaded math images into machine-readable math content;
  • remember your preferences and history on your device;
  • improve product quality, reliability, localization, and performance;
  • diagnose bugs, abuse, or operational issues;
  • maintain security and prevent misuse of the service.

Legal Bases and Consent

  • your consent, where you choose to use optional features such as analytics cookies or OCR uploads;
  • performance of a service you request, such as calculation or conversion;
  • our legitimate interests in maintaining, securing, and improving the service.

When Data Is Shared

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with service providers or infrastructure partners only where reasonably necessary to operate the service, such as:

  • hosting and backend infrastructure providers;
  • analytics and measurement providers, if enabled;
  • security, error monitoring, or abuse prevention providers;
  • legal authorities when required by law.

Third-Party Libraries and Services

CalcES uses third-party software libraries and services to power product features. These may include, depending on the deployed build:

  • Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, or Firebase Analytics for measurement when enabled.

Using these libraries does not necessarily mean each one independently receives your personal data directly; many are bundled client-side and run locally in your browser.

Data Retention

  • Data stored in browser local storage remains until you clear it, reset app data, or uninstall related browser data.
  • Cached assets and API responses may remain until your browser or service worker clears or refreshes them.
  • Server-side processing data is retained only as long as reasonably necessary for service operation, security, logging, debugging, compliance, or abuse prevention.

International Use

CalcES may be accessed from multiple countries and languages. Depending on hosting configuration, information may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence.

Children’s Privacy

CalcES is designed for general educational and productivity use. It is not intentionally directed to children under the age at which independent consent is required in their jurisdiction. If you believe a child has provided data improperly, please contact us.

Your Choices

You may be able to:

  • avoid using OCR/image-upload features;
  • clear browser local storage and cached site data;
  • use browser controls to limit cookies, storage, or analytics;
  • contact us regarding privacy-related requests.

Please note that clearing local data may remove saved history, variables, preferences, and other convenience features.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information processed through the service. However, no internet transmission or storage mechanism is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect product, legal, or operational changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date when appropriate.
